Summer Lawn Maintenance
As promised last week, we will be talking about summer lawn maintenance again this week. If you have a sprinkling system in your lawn, you should be watering 15 - 20 minutes 3 times a week to properly and adequately water your lawn. If the hot dry summer persist, you may need to increase your watering time by 5 minutes per watering. The type of grease you have will also affect the length of time you water. For example, Bermuda takes less water than Fescue, so requires less watering time. If you're watering with a hose and a stationary sprinkler, you probably should leave the sprinkler in one place for 40 - 50 minutes, depending on the size of hose you use. A 5/8" hose will deliver about 12 - 15 gallons per minutes compared to a 3/4" hose that is capable of delivering 20 - 22 gallons per minute. When selecting a sprinkler, try to find one that throws a ow profile pattern rather than one that throws water high into the air. The higher the pattern, the more adversely the water is affected by the wind and the greater the evaporation rate will be. Some traveling or walking sprinklers throw low patterns and would be ideal for use in our windy country. The National Brand walking sprinkler is the original crawler and weighs in at a hefty 26 pounds and is well suited for watering lawns in our area. The speed at which our tractor moves is 20, 30, or 40 feet per hour, which makes it the most versatile sprinkler available. Should you beer need repairs for a National, we carry all the parts necessary to fix your tractor. The oldest National Sprinkler we've sold parts for was 35 years old. The owner was fixing his sprinkler for his grandchildren. When repaired, his sprinkler will probably last another 35 years. These sprinklers are built to last.
